Wine of the Day – Leese-Fitch Merlot

Leese-Fitch Merlot

Last night, my wine group had an event at Bogart’s again. Great wine bar by the way; definitely be sure to give it a try if you have not yet had the chance!

We did a flight of reds, and along with an Old Vine Zinfandel, Shiraz and Cashmere, I tried a Leese-Fitch Merlot (can’t remember if it was 2006 or 2007). Now, if you’ve read my blogs or we’ve chatted, you know I’m a fan of red wines — all reds. Most of the time, I’ll select a Cabernet and possibly an Old Vine Zinfandel depending on my mood. In other words, I would rarely choose Merlot for a glass, even though I do enjoy it occasionally. However, Deb at Bogart’s gave such high reviews to the Leese-Fitch, I had to try it.

I WAS AMAZED! It was fantastic! Just the right amount of tannin to give it perfect structure, and it was so smooth and fruit forward that it left me singing its praises and wanting more! This wine was sensual, with a fabulous velvety mouthfeel and deep, berry flavors with hints of cocoa. Merlot may not be my first choice in most situations, but I am definitely going to have to make a point to see if I can find this fabulous wine at a local wine store, or I’ll just keep stopping back at Bogart’s and enjoy a glass with Deb — always a good time. YUM!

Cheers to full glasses all around!

Bogart’s Wine Bar

I have decided to forego the wine of the day for today to provide a review on a wine bar I happened to go to last evening.

I have a Wine Meetup in which I schedule monthly or semimonthly gatherings where we get the opportunity to go out to various wine bars and establishments to support them and to try different wines and appetizers. Visit the website: AppletonWineTasting for more information.

I scheduled our January 20th meetup for Bogart’s Wine Bar in Neenah. When I first scheduled it, group members, myself included, were wondering whether Bogart’s was an actual wine bar and still open. It is, and I am so happy that I found this gem.

When I walked into Bogart’s (at 124 W. Wisconsin, Neenah – in the Marketplace, 920-915-6771), I was surrounded by an elegant warmth with hints of chocolate in the air. There was a group of friends gathered at a table near the entrance, with smaller tables available for seating around the room, as well as a private lounge area with sofa, chairs and smaller tables.

If you know me, believe it or not, when I’m in a new place with people I am unfamiliar with, I am a bit reserved. I walked up to the front and introduced myself to Deb, one of the owners. I felt very comfortable and her graciousness put me at ease instantly.

I was seated with a wine list and started looking at the list to see what I was going to select. I was looking for something a bit different, and their wine (and spirits) list was fantastic. Different options for those looking for sparkling, whites, reds, martinis, beers and even cigars!

Their appetizer list was brief, but with chocolate truffles, cheese and flatbread (including my favorite Bellavitano cheese), and Crostini as options, I found what I was looking for and it paired perfectly with the wine I selected for the evening: Shiraz.

Renee, the daughter of the owners, brought out my appetizer and she was as delightful her mother. Deb, Mitch and Renee were so friendly, it is the type of place where you could go night after night and feel like you are with friends.

If you are looking for that favorite, quaint place you can call your own, give Bogart’s a try. You will always find the owners on hand – that’s what I love about this place. You know you will be treated like friends because the owners are onsite whenever they are open.

My evening ended as it began, talking with Deb, and I am happy to say that Bogart’s Wine Bar is going to be one of my favorite places. I am excited to bring my husband there, and I know he will love it as much as I do.

Bogart’s Wine Bar serves Chocolate truffles, Fine Spirits, Specialty Beer and is a Premium Cigar Merchant. They are open Wednesday – Saturday to the public and will host parties by reservation as well: birthday, engagement, bridal, retirement, and anniversary.

I hope you give it a try and tell Deb that Kathy Brewer sent you.

Cheers to full glasses all around!
